Study Finds Best Run States Are Low Tax Republican, Worst Run Are High Tax Democrat

Several states, including Republican states, have decided to raise taxes this year to cover budget shortfalls. But a new study suggests that the states might find themselves in worse financial shape after the money starts rolling in. According to the latest ranking of states by the Mercatus Center at George Mason University, the most fiscally sound states in the nation are all low-tax, GOP strongholds, while the 10 least-solvent states are almost all high-tax and heavily Democratic. We know this thanks to a fascinating and unwittingly revelatory article in the German newspaper Der Spiegel. The paper reveals how, in the days running up to President Trump’s decision to quit the UN Paris accord, he received a series of deputations from EU leaders urging him to change his mind. “For me it’s easier to stay in than step out,” Trump told them. This is perfectly true. Since his momentous Rose Garden speech announcing his plans to pull out of Paris, Trump has taken

Venzuela Reminds Us That Socialism Frequently Leads to Dictatorship

Nicolas Maduro’s Venezuela is one place where Friedrich Hayek’s most dire warnings remain relevant. Marian Tupy | April 4, 2017 • Manaure Quintero/NurPhoto/Sipa U/NewscomOn March 29, the Supreme Court of Venezuela dissolved the country’s elected legislature, allowing Venezuela’s top court to write future laws. But following international outcry—as well as the appearance of cracks within Maduro’s own party—the court reversed itself just a

Obama Proclaims He “Saved the U.S. Economy.” That’s Demonstrably Untrue.

Search of any plausible, positive legacy item, even if they have to manufacture it, Democrats have advanced the false narrative that Obama “saved the economy.” It would  be a neat thing if it were true. Let me parse out the facts of this spin, echoed by the media and academia, as it relates to Obama’s self-proclaimed “top” legacy item. We are supposed to believe that the community organizer, with zero business experience, led us out of a recession and kept us from a “great depression” with his financial savvy. Two very inconvenient truths refute this. First, the economy officially came
